A Word About the Flags
I've tried to identify those people listed in the Family Groups who are veterans by including appropriate flags in their family group listing. The flag images that are used are small and I've included this page to show the flag images in more detail and also to tell when the flag was used. These images and information were obtained from the US flag page.
The Betsy Ross Flag is said to have been designed by George Washington and made by Betsy Ross in 1776. This story was first told by Betsy Ross' grandson in the late 1800's and most historians doubt that it is accurate. However, since this flag is immediately associated in most people's minds with the Revolutionary War, I've used it to mark Revolutionary War veterans on the Family Group pages.
The 24-star United States flag was the official flag from 1822 until 1836. This incudes the Second Seminole Indian War in which John Morgan served in the volunteer militia.
The 48-star United States flag became the official flag on 4 July 1912 and continued as the official flag through World Wars I and II and the Korean War.
The 50-star United States flag became the official flag on 4 July 1960 with the admission of Hawaii as the 50th state.
The Confederate 'Stars and Bars' battle flag is used to identify Confederate veterans on these family pages.
